The law allows a consumer a right to request that inaccurate information on a credit report be removed. The credit bureaus must conduct a reasonable investigation to ensure the accuracy of the credit item. If they fail this standard, there is something you can do. The Federal Credit Reporting Act offers the consumer a chance to approach the creditor or credit bureau for failing to properly investigate a consumer’s request to update incorrect credit items that are being reported.
